Meet Hashtag #hansonpup

So we got a puppy, a big puppy…..a Rhodesian Ridgeback.  Without a ridge.  Yes they come without a ridge.  They are either born with or without a ridge.  And my son, Stryder chose one without a ridge.  He actually chose my son.  He is named Hashtag.  A name that was heavily debated in the Hanson household for several months while we waiting for Mr. Hashtag to be born and then anxiously awaited to meet him and wait again for him to be ready to come home!

So he finally came home a few weeks ago – he’s still getting acclimated, but we love him (especially when he sleeps).  He’s very cuddly and super soft!

Here are some photos from his first photoshoot……without further adieu

Here’s Hashtag

Warrior | Heidi Hanson Photography | Connecticut Wedding Photographer

For nine days I took a journey to the Napo Region of Ecuador as part of a team put together by an amazing photographer Alicia Daw. Simply Love 2014, was a group of individuals from all over the country who volunteered to work at Casa Feliz an orphanage run by an organization called Bless an Orphan.

It is really hard to put into words all the things that I encountered in the nine days I was gone, the ups, the downs, the highs and lows, the emotional moments (yes there were many), self realizations and just pure fun. The stories of the 17 children that live at Casa Feliz are so heart-wrenching, it is purely gruesome to hear how awful these children have been treated by their family members lives, but so beautiful to see their smiles and how happy they are now because of the love they have from the generous souls who help make Casa Feliz such a loving environment.

I have wanted to do a mission trip for a while, but as many things go, life kind of gets in the way of things like that.  But coming off the heels of 2013, one of the worst years for me ever, the stars aligned and everything seemed to fall into place.  I needed to know that there was some good in this world and that I could experience it first hand.

I don’t want to say that it was a soul searching mission for me, but I definitely learned a lot about myself during this trip. Living with 13 complete strangers will definitely help you figure out a lot about yourself rather quickly – LOL.

I feel like I’ve come back with a newer, fresher perspective on life and can really focus better on what is important in life:

  • I’m not going to beat myself up so much.  When I’m presented with a challenge I will take a step back and figure out how to handle it, we’re talking baby steps people; not blowing everything out of proportion…just simply looking at new ways to handle things rather than getting down on myself;
  • Being more truthful with myself and others.  I’m not going to filter so much more of my thoughts, so look out, I’m going to be more honest, it may backfire, but I’m tired of hiding my feelings inside ( “You hear my voice, you hear that sound Like thunder gonna shake the ground.”- Katy Perry Roar – yes I love this song 🙂
  • I know I can’t change the world, and a lot of circumstances are way beyond my control, I can’t change the past. I realize that. I have to let fate or ‘whatever’ let things be.  What I can change is myself and focus on the way I project my own thoughts and feelings onto people and events.  I am going to try really hard to let that happen this year.
  • This year I will learn to accept what I cannot change – whew this is a BIG one for me. And by big I mean hard!  I am going to have to remind myself of this everyday and take big deep breaths and really, really, REALLY try hard to do this.
  • Life is too short – I want to live it to the fullest with my family and enjoy all the moments we can together.

While I was only there for a short period of time I think that I was able to make a little bit of a difference.  I participated in projects at the orphanage including organizing all the donations we brought down there (thank you to all those that donated); organized the storage room; helped paint an outdoor chalkboard wall for the children; made corn hole and beanbag toss games; assembled a checkerboard tile area outside for the children; and put on a carnival in a jungle village (pie in the face – that was my station)! I also hope that I helped bring a few smiles to some of the children while I was there, because they certainly brought some smiles to my face.

I cannot say enough about the staff and volunteers of Casa Feliz and Bless an Orphan; they are amazing people who give up their entire lives and move thousands of miles away from their friends and families to help put smiles on these children faces everyday they truly are warriors. And the kids….they are the true warriors after having been through abuse, delinquency, corruption, neglect and worse, they are still smiling and happy to be alive and in a loving environment.  This was my first time doing something like this and it certainly won’t be my last.

Now I’m a warrior, I’ve got thicker skin, I’m a warrior I’m stronger than I’ve ever been, – Demi Lovato

9 months, 28 pounds and three hair colors | Heidi Hanson Photography

I know it has been a while since I blogged, but that means I’m busy right?  Sure, let’s go with that 🙂  Really I have been busy, three hair colors right?  Let’s see I started with a reddish/brown hair color, then went blonde so I could go blue, then the blue faded really fast then I kept the blonde and the summer at the beach made it a nice blonde (according to my husband) then I got sick of that and went to a walnut blonde (which now is just gross) so it will soon be another yet to be named color.

So here I am 9 months after making the decision to go full-time into this crazy world of photography.  Do I have any regrets?  No, not yet?  I’m loving my freedom, from my psycho ex-boss, who get this….has been even more psychotic, but also get this…is gone in two days because her interim-ship (is that a word), is over in two days!!  Her position is being replaced by an actual person that knows how to run a non-profit organization, WOW imagine that!  Anyhow, since leaving those 9 months ago, the stress of that chaotic world, has caused me to refocus and loose 28 pounds, well not just the stress, I’m eating better and working out much more.  But the stress of not seeing that let’s call her a witch because it’s Halloween time, is AMAZING!

Plus I’m doing what I LOVE!!!  I have the freedom to be creative everyday.  What’s not to love?  I get to capture people at the most amazing times of their lives – getting married, creating families, sharing family moments – the list goes on.  I don’t know everything about photography, don’t claim to be the best, but I am learning, striving to be the best that I can and trying everyday to succeed.

i packed my bags last night preflight | Heidi Hanson Photography Specializing in Weddings

I just love those lyrics, they can mean so many things to so many people. To me it means possibilities, chance, potential, opportunities, a destination.  a fun place to go.  A new place to explore. Meet new people. New adventures. New opportunities.  2013 is a new and exciting year for Heid Hanson Photography. A year for me. A year of possibilities, chance, potential, opportunities, a destination.

I’m excited to announce this year I’m offering traveling as part of my wedding photography!  That’s right, now I can bring my awesomeness to you.  I realized after doing so many weddings in NY last year, that it only seemed natural to expand my borders to New England and beyond.  Already in October I’ll be heading west to Wisconsin and I cannot wait to taste all the local cheese (hoping that it truly is the cheese capital of US)!

New opportunities.

New adventures.

Stay tuned, 2013 is going to be amazing.

Have Courage | Connecticut Wedding Photography by Heidi Hanson

Anyone that knows me knows that I go through a lot of cell phone cases for my iPhone.  It’s not that I’m clumsy but it something that happens a lot.  Or my kids make it happen a lot or my multitasking causes it..yah I’ll blame it on that 🙂

When I say a lot I’d say that I go through about 6 cases a year.  One every two months on average.  Seems about right.

Of course I can’t get the industrial strength ones, b/c I want a cute one (i.e. cute = kate spade).

Now my phone I should say is in great shape.  Because usually when the phone drops the front goes one way, the back goes another way and my phone lands back down (not face).

So as usually more morning was hectic, kids got up late, didn’t want to go to school, barely anytime for breakfast, they wanted chips, you know the usually morning.

So as I dashed out of the shower and heard my phone go off, my slippery fingers botched the phone grab and smash…all over the bathroom floor.

Of course a few obscenities were said, but for some reason I stopped and read something.  Never having seen this before.

HAVE COURAGE

Courage: the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty.  Wow what great timing.

Okay so I only buy kate spade (did i mention cute) and this was the first time I had ever seen the inside of the back of my case.

I’m not sure why it caught my attention today, but it did, and I’m seeing it as a sign.

So as I go through my ever increasingly difficult day (week/year, lol), I’m trying to maintain courage.  Face my difficulties and get through them as best I can.  Because I will be stronger having faced them.

So to everyone out there, HAVE COURAGE in everything you do

Hump Day and Frogs | Connecticut Wedding Photography by Heidi Hansn

Wednesday is traditionally called hump day, which always makes me giggle a little.

C’mon you know you are giggling too!

For me, Wednesday isn’t the hump.

As a photographer I’m traditionally working all weekend long, which I guess would make Friday my hump!

Ok stop giggling!

I’m very excited for this after weekend. I get the opportunity to photography two boudoir sessions, with two fabulously, gorgeous, amazing and fun ladies! The weather should be fabulous, for maybe sneaking in a few outdoor photos!

It has been a yucky weather week in Connecticut this week.  Lots of rain, fog and frogs!

We have a pond in our front yard, which we love.  Many frogs, tadpoles and salamanders to catch! Having two small children and several nets, it can provide hours of entertainment.  The rain really brings these guys out!

Or should I say in?

We have this joke every year at my house, that when there is the perfect rain to fog ratio (and warmer weather) frogs attack our house.

You know like in that scary horror flick when zombies attack?  But much cuter!

Typically we find them creeping up our driveway in a swarm, or piled together on our deck.  Usually they are suctioned to our sliding glass doors, or our front windows.  However, this little guy picked a different spot.

My Golden Retriever’s food bowl!  He was so still, barely moved, even when Gage tried to eat him!  Hours later, he was tucked in, eyes closed, perfectly content.  Luckily he was gone by morning, so my dog didn’t inhale him as part of his breakfast!

Crossing off one item from my list | Heidi Hanson Photography Specializing in Weddings

It feels like forever since I’ve gone out on my own, well December was a while ago, so yeah I’ll go with forever 🙂

One of my main goals was really to focus on weddings, while I do love the babies and families, weddings are really where my passion lies.  Don’t worry folks, I will still do family sessions for you 🙂

So building my brand around weddings was a huge priority.  If you’ve been following me you see that I’ve got a new logo, which I love. Simple with a little funk…( love me some funky), it is my photography style.

I love capturing the little moments that happen throughout the day, moments that the newly married couple might not see.  Moments when captured in a photograph snap you right back to that day.

This is me and my style.

So without further ado we get to the title of this post….Crossing off one thing from my list…

The new website! Yeah! So excited to introduce you to my new site. It was a stressful time, but I made it through with some awesome tech support and my husband (who thinks he did the whole site, ha ha, he didn’t) but I can still give him a few props!

It still needs a few tweaks, but I really do love it. Simple, funky…it’s me…..So enjoy! And please feel free to pass along the new site to all your friends and family.

FEELING SEXY AND A CONTEST | HEIDI HANSON PHOTOGRAPHY SPECIALIZING IN WEDDINGS IN CT

You are beautiful. Your true beauty lies in becoming yourself ~ Anonymous

I know a lot of us don’t like the way we look, myself included, but I’m working on that 😉

Boudoir shoots are fast becoming one of my favorite things to shoot.  Boudoir photo sessions are tasteful photos that hint at sexiness. They’re fun, sexy and all while maintain your comfort level. Plus they make a great gift for that special someone, for Valentine’s Day, your anniversary, Christmas or even as a deployment gift.

Typically boudoir sessions are done in the privacy of your home or in a hotel or friends house.  Sessions are usually around 2 hours and include multiple wardrobe changes.  You don’t have to be a size 0 to be sexy!  Look at Adele, she’s hot!

Boudoir sessions are also fun if you bring your friends, they also make for a great bachelorette party!  So today I wanted to announce that I’m doing a contest for a Boudoir Party!  Invite your friends to bring their sexy lingerie, hot high heels or their partner’s favorite football/baseball jersey.  Bring some bubbly and be prepared to have more fun than you thought possible!

So here’s how the contest works. You have to comment to this blog post and say why you’d like to host a boudoir party.  Winner will receive their session free!  All you have to do is invite four ladies to their party!  And if that isn’t enough the winner will also receive a mini-book from their session!  For your guests, each girl will pay $100 for the session and have the option of two outfits (more can be added for an additional fee), and a DVD of edited images from the shoot.  All photos will be placed on an online gallery for easy order (password protected of course)!

So all you have to do to win is just comment below about why you would love to host a boudoir party!  That’s it…winner will be chosen next week!  Girls it’s time to bring sexy back!!
