9 months, 28 pounds and three hair colors | Heidi Hanson Photography

I know it has been a while since I blogged, but that means I’m busy right?  Sure, let’s go with that 🙂  Really I have been busy, three hair colors right?  Let’s see I started with a reddish/brown hair color, then went blonde so I could go blue, then the blue faded really fast then I kept the blonde and the summer at the beach made it a nice blonde (according to my husband) then I got sick of that and went to a walnut blonde (which now is just gross) so it will soon be another yet to be named color.

So here I am 9 months after making the decision to go full-time into this crazy world of photography.  Do I have any regrets?  No, not yet?  I’m loving my freedom, from my psycho ex-boss, who get this….has been even more psychotic, but also get this…is gone in two days because her interim-ship (is that a word), is over in two days!!  Her position is being replaced by an actual person that knows how to run a non-profit organization, WOW imagine that!  Anyhow, since leaving those 9 months ago, the stress of that chaotic world, has caused me to refocus and loose 28 pounds, well not just the stress, I’m eating better and working out much more.  But the stress of not seeing that let’s call her a witch because it’s Halloween time, is AMAZING!

Plus I’m doing what I LOVE!!!  I have the freedom to be creative everyday.  What’s not to love?  I get to capture people at the most amazing times of their lives – getting married, creating families, sharing family moments – the list goes on.  I don’t know everything about photography, don’t claim to be the best, but I am learning, striving to be the best that I can and trying everyday to succeed.

Have Courage | Connecticut Wedding Photography by Heidi Hanson

Anyone that knows me knows that I go through a lot of cell phone cases for my iPhone.  It’s not that I’m clumsy but it something that happens a lot.  Or my kids make it happen a lot or my multitasking causes it..yah I’ll blame it on that 🙂

When I say a lot I’d say that I go through about 6 cases a year.  One every two months on average.  Seems about right.

Of course I can’t get the industrial strength ones, b/c I want a cute one (i.e. cute = kate spade).

Now my phone I should say is in great shape.  Because usually when the phone drops the front goes one way, the back goes another way and my phone lands back down (not face).

So as usually more morning was hectic, kids got up late, didn’t want to go to school, barely anytime for breakfast, they wanted chips, you know the usually morning.

So as I dashed out of the shower and heard my phone go off, my slippery fingers botched the phone grab and smash…all over the bathroom floor.

Of course a few obscenities were said, but for some reason I stopped and read something.  Never having seen this before.

HAVE COURAGE

Courage: the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty.  Wow what great timing.

Okay so I only buy kate spade (did i mention cute) and this was the first time I had ever seen the inside of the back of my case.

I’m not sure why it caught my attention today, but it did, and I’m seeing it as a sign.

So as I go through my ever increasingly difficult day (week/year, lol), I’m trying to maintain courage.  Face my difficulties and get through them as best I can.  Because I will be stronger having faced them.

So to everyone out there, HAVE COURAGE in everything you do

INSTAGRAM OBSESSION | CONNECTICUT WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY BY HEIDI HANSON (FORMERLY PHPHOTOGRAPHY)

We all heard the news about Facebook buying Instagram for $1B…WOW!

Pretty cool though for a small company to be so amazingly popular that Facebook would want to buy it.  And not only can iPhone users utilize the app, it is also available for Android now.

I use Instagram every day, it is so easy and fun and it is a good way to keep your mind sharp!

I do a lot of driving every day.

I am fortunate that I live in such a beautiful part of the state and get to drive by the Saugatuck River, several reservoirs and lots of forests.  Lots of pretty things to capture instantly, and sometimes as I’m literally driving!  So I thought today I would share some of my favorite recent Instagram photos.  If you’re on Instagram be sure to follow me @heidihansonphotography

So here they are:

FAVORITE THINGS | CT WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY BY HEIDI HANSON (AKA PHPHOTOGRAPHY)

For those of you who know me (and now those who don’t), know that I never sleep. If I get 3 hours a night that is amazing… So I often will get up and make a list of things I need to do, things that I think might make a good blog post, a little phrase to get me through to the next day, etc.  So last night as I got up the song “My Favorite Things” popped into my head, you know the one from the Sound of Music…Raindrops and roses and whiskers on kittens….

So today I’m going to list a few of my favorite things (not necessarily in any order)

My daughters giggle (whether it be evil or not)

My son’s honesty (even though we pinky swear that it is a secret!)

Photography (duh, as my daughter would say, yes she is only four but very wise)

The color orange

The smell of gasoline and fresh cut grass (not necessarily together)

Massages, manicures and pedicures (who doesn’t?)

Clean sheets

Bubble baths

Martinis

Pier 1 Imports and Target

Christmas (my favorite time of the year)

My doggies

My husband’s constant support

The beach, doesn’t matter which one, just give me some sand and some water

And last but not least, a photo of one of my favorite things

What are some of your favorite things?

MY DREAM | CT WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY BY HEIDI HANSON (AKA PHPHOTOGRAPHY)

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world. ~Harriet Tubman

Ten

Not 9, not 11, but 10

10 is the number of action items I was given after my mentorship with Justin and Mary.

Ten Steps to get to my big hairy audacious goal….Full-Time Wedding Photography

Some of them are short-term and definitely attainable; in fact I can do a couple today 🙂

And then there are those that are longer-term, making me stepping outside my little comfort zone and really pushing me to fulfill my dream.

Ten things to help me accomplish my dream.

Ten things to help me reach for the stars.

Ten things to start right now!

SWEAT | PHphotography specializing in Weddings

A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work. ~ Colin Powell

I’m a sweat(er).

Always have been.

Part of it is genetics (at least that is what I’d like to blame it on)

The other part is I dive right in and never look back.

Whether it is yard work (and my husband can attest to this) where we have been literally ripping up trees with our bare hands, cutting down thousands and thousands of picker’s (or crickers as the kids like to call them), or just simply raking leaves…I’m drenched with sweat.

Working out ~ I’ve been swimming a lot lately, and yes it is possible to sweat while you are swimming laps.

Or taking photos.  I am literally drenched by the end of a session or a wedding…only further proof that I brought it.

I’ve always been persistent, a fighter, afraid to fail, wanting to challenge myself, adding as many things to my plate as I can possibly juggle and then maybe add a few more.

So tomorrow I get to meet Justin and Mary.  This amazing rockstar photography couple who are going to help me take on more…teach me the ways, help me accomplish what I want to, help me add more things to my plate and help me sweat more.

So today, I will spend the day making my list of questions, struggles and my bHags (big hairy audacious goals…..and most likely sweating while I make my list.

So whoever said girls don’t sweat, they glisten……wasn’t talking about this girl.
